Mike loves to sail in TEXAS on “Hiding Out,” a Hunter 36 sailboat in Lake Lavon. This is his current boat in the lake.
Capt. Mike started his sailing adventure in Port Arthur, Texas on a 48ft Ketch named PANACEA. His first employer, Dr. Jim Miller, DVM. got him addicted to sailing. Leave it to a Doctor to get someone addicted! Ever since then, the boats kept coming. Mike’s boats have included PANDORA, PARAGON, HIDING OUT, and PAROMA. Mike only retains 3 of these now.
Capt. Mike loves to race in club regatta at Lake Lavon, his home club. He has taken PARAGON (his Olson 25) on the road to Lake Ray Hubbard, Lake Lewisville, and Lake Texoma for regattas such as the Leukemia Cup, Heritage Regatta, Dallas Race Week, and Lakefest.
For over 40 years, Capt. Mike continues to take friends and family sailing. He is an experienced sailor with 40 years of sailing experience. He holds a USCG 100 ton Master Marine license since 2008. He has been a member of the LYC since 1988.
The Harvest Moon Regatta has been a big interest of Mike until he purchased PAROMA in the Caribbean. Mike mounted 15 campaigns from 2005 to 2022, Mike raced the Harvest Moon Regatta in the Gulf of Mexico from Galveston to Port Aransas, TX.
Mike continues to sail with the Lavon Yacht Club and be active with others at area lakes and clubs. Mike also continues to teach sailing to adults and kids at the lake.
